Description
Rhododendron ‘Besse Howells’ is a compact, broadleaf evergreen shrub celebrated for its vivid spring blooms and year-round structure. From May onward, this stunning rhododendron bursts into dramatic, purplish-red flowers with a deep red blotch, each blossom delicately frilled for extra appeal. Clusters of showy blooms are held against lush, evergreen foliage, providing multi-season interest and structure in the garden.
Growing 4–6 feet tall and wide, ‘Besse Howells’ is ideal for foundation plantings, borders, or as a bold accent in a woodland or shade garden. Its upright, compact habit makes it especially useful in smaller spaces. Loved by butterflies and hummingbirds, it’s also rabbit-tolerant and adds reliable winter interest.
